The foreshore is a maritime zone that is sometimes covered and sometimes uncovered by the tide.
In Gaspésie, l'Estran also refers to a geographical area located in the north of Gaspésie, more precisely on the peninsula's northeastern coastline. This area includes several municipalities (and their hamlets), notably Cloridorme (Pointe-à-la-Frégatte), Grande-Vallée, Petite-Vallée and Sainte-Madeleine-de-la-Rivière-Madeleine. L'Estran is considered a distinct region of Gaspésie, with its own cultural and economic character.
