In general, the Fédération des Chambres de commerce du Québec (FCCQ) supports Bill 25, An Act to combat illegal tourist accommodation, in its intention to ensure equitable application among the various players in the accommodation industry. This bill is a continuation of the steps taken by the government in its previous Bill 100, the Tourist Lodging Act, to reform the industry. Moreover, certain elements of this document have responded to various requests we made in our brief on Bill 100, including the question of the application framework for the registration system. With regard to the present bill, we are proposing a number of recommendations to the government aimed at fostering healthy competition between traditional tourism accommodation companies and collaborative accommodation platforms.
Through its vast network of 123 chambers of commerce and 1,200 corporate members, the Fédération des chambres de commerce du Québec (FCCQ) represents more than 45,000 businesses operating in all sectors of the economy throughout Quebec. The largest network of business people and companies in Quebec, the FCCQ is both a federation of chambers of commerce and a provincial chamber of commerce. Its members, whether chambers or companies, all pursue the same goal: to foster an innovative, competitive and sustainable business environment.
