The extended deposit is just around the corner

At the start of 2020, the Quebec government announced two major reforms to help recover more and recycle better, namely the extension of the deposit and the modernization of selective collection.

In December 2022, at the request of our member Nadine Murray of Provigo, we met with the Association des détaillants en alimentation du Québec du Québec, the Fédération des Chambres de commerce du Québec and the Régie intermunicipale de traitement des matières résiduelles de la Gaspésie (RITMRG) to develop a common understanding of the impacts and obligations for our businesses.
This law affects producers as well - a whole ecosystem to bring together!

As of November 1, 2023, all beverage containers in Quebec between 100 ml and 2 liters will have to be returnable, whether they're made of glass, plastic or plastic-coated cardboard (like milk containers, for example). In addition to beer and soft-drink bottles, this means wine, spirits, juice and sparkling water bottles, among others.


The
file has become a "major file" at the Chamber of Commerce and will be followed, fed and documented. This law affects producers as well - a whole ecosystem to bring together!
