The Chamber sits with citizens' groups on a table to mobilize and exchange views on the progress of the Gaspé railroad refurbishment. The table is made up of the Côte-de-Gaspé Chamber of Commerce, citizens' groups, Solidarité Gaspésie and Gaspé prefects, including the president of the Société de chemin de fer de la Gaspésie.
Work on this section is currently in progress. Rehabilitation of this 127 km section requires :
- the reconstruction of seven structures (five bridges and two walls);
- the rehabilitation of 18 structures;
- track relocation in three sectors;
- replacement of over 120 culverts;
- protection against coastal erosion and flooding;
- track work on the entire section, such as tie changes, ballasting, levelling and replacement of track components (rail anchors, tie plates, rails, etc.).
This section of track is particularly sensitive to geological and coastal conditions. Almost 15 km of the track runs along sandbanks, some segments of which have been submerged. Several landslides have also been recorded.
